BRIO PRR GG1

My dad's favorite locomotive is the Pennsylvania Railroad's all electric GG1 in the Brunswick Green with gold pinstriping livery. While he's got a decent collection of O, and HO model trains, he's never owned a GG1. Some day I'd like to acquire one for him, but until then, I was able to treat him to this wooden railway version with a decal set to match. If I had a CNC milling machine I could export and send this directly from Autodesk Fusion 360.

As an exercise to get used to modeling utilizing the capabilities of CAD software. I decided to use the blueprints for my home as a reference to build the scene.

I used Autodesk Fusion 360 to create everything in the scene and carried in the table and chair set from a previous post since it fit in with everything else.

While Fusion 360 is great CAD software, it's not quite the bebest choice for architechtual designs. Everything had to be done manually. No shortcuts for the walls, windows, or doors.

2025 Revisit

I wanted to revisit this model again after a few years of learning Fusion 360. The majority of this model was already to my liking so I didn't really do much to update this other than smooth out edges and combine meshes. I rendered out the new views with better camera focal length and a transparent background this time.

I Made a 3D Model of My Room to Virtually Move Furniture

1/28/2019

Is it laziness or genius? I've told this story many times but I don't think I've ever shown anyone what I actually meant.

When I was still living in the college dorms, I liked to change the layout of the room once in a while. It was a hassle to move the furniture into a spot and having it end up not working or just not liking the new layout.

What did I do to solve this problem?

I went to the housing office and asked for the floor plan to the building, measured the dimensions of spots in the room to make sure they match the dimensions on the plan and went from there. I made quick models of the furniture we had in each room and placed them where they needed to go. Of course I didn't model all of our furniture, just the things we moved often.

Whenever we wanted to move the furniture again I'd just load up the file and start moving things around. I probably should have been working on another project at the time but this was worth it.
